I purchased the reader for ~ $40.00. I bought this reader since it was compatible with SD Jukebox, and I wanted to use SD Jukebox to put MP3 files on an SD card, to use with my Technics SL-DZ1200 turntables. I installed the software that came with the reader, installed SD Jukebox, and everything worked as planned. Nothing more to say other than it did the job it was supposed to do.

TCC TC-760LC BLACK Moving Magnet / Moving Coil Phono Preamp w/Level Control Review

TCC TC-760LC BLACK Moving Magnet / Moving Coil Phono Preamp w/Level Control
Average Reviews:

This is a smooth sounding preamp, and the price is right. My one disappointment is that I had assumed you'd be able to connect two moving coil turntables at the same time and switch between them, but you can't. You could connect one MC and one MM turntable simultaneously, but I don't use MM cartridges. I place the blame on myself, for not doing a little research and reading the small print. Otherwise, you forget it's there, which is the whole point. I'm about to get a tube preamp, costing several times as much, for my other MC turntable. I'll then be able to compare it to this one and hear whether the extra money was worth it.

1.5M 2-Slot to Standard Outlet Cord Review

1.5M 2-Slot to Standard Outlet Cord
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The cord is about as long as can be had for figure-8, 2-prong cords.
The other end is standard, 2-prong, US, non-polarized plug.
The ends are molded on and are snug.
The sheathing is a satin finish (not very glossy).
The cord is not sticky like many other brands, so it doesn't seem to pick up as much carpet fuzz.
The connectors fit snugly into the sockets and hold tight. No forcing required, but they don't wiggle loose either.
It's a pretty heavy duty cord.
The cable is labeled with this text:
KOK KAWASAKI (UL) E42955 NISPT-2 VW-1 2/18AWG FUJIKURA-T CSA PT-2 FT2 2/18AWG ZION
E42955 and FUJIKURA mean the cord is manufactured by:
FUJIKURA LTD
1-5-1 KIBA
KOTO-KU
TOKYO, 135-0042 JAPAN
The NISPT-2 means Nylon Irradiated, Stranded, Parallel, Thermoset, 2 conductor. NI is rated up to 105C before it begins to degrade. Stranded means it's for AC power ideally. Parallel means it's a flat cord. Thermoset means the outer insulation is melted on and will provide a little more durability.
2/18AWG means 2 conductors (110v and neutral), at 18 American Wire Gauge. 18AWG copper in open, 30C air will reach 105C at 18 Amps. A 6 foot length will have about 0.05 Ohms of resistance. As an extension cord, the copper is rated for 7 amps. Pull less if it will be wadded, or packed tightly without open air, or packed with other cords.
VW-1 - Interior conductors may be wrapped in Varnished Cambric (fabric), which is rated to 185F for dry locations only. The W means the outer layer is rated for 2000 volts, extra heavy duty usage. It's oil and dirt resistant.
CSA - C means "Cord" as in lamp cord, rated for temporary use (ie, not for installation in walls). S means Hard Service, for use as a pendant or on a garage floor. A means asbestos. The interior weave may be resistant to breaking down if overheated. This is embedded in the thermoset plastic, and should not be a health concern.
FT2 means a fixture wire, overall rated for up to 90C, with thermoset plastic outer cover, with 2 conductors inside.
UL means Underwriter Laboratories listed.

Technics SB-AS500 - Subwoofer - black Review

Technics SB-AS500 - Subwoofer - black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
SBAS500 powered sub-woofer is another reason why I have respect for the "Technics" brand. It is simple to install, understand, and yet delivers the quality tight bass. The low frequency is handled and delivered well by the in-built 100W amplifier. It works well with any existing home theater system or even component music systems. I am using the S500 with my "Marantz" digital AV sound processor, and since I have added this sub-woofer, the sound quality has increases dramatically. Some of you may find it a little less responsive sometimes, but then you should realize that this is not a super-sub. Try looking for JBL, and RCA for that sound effects (but they come at a price). At $220, it's not overpriced at all, with its outstanding quality and sound, it will satisfy most of you.

Technics cd changers do play cd-r's along with almost all cd players of any type. Do you actually own one that doesn't? If you do it must be defective. The customer support people in my experience usually know less about there equipment than I do. Maybe they were confused or maybe they thought you meant cd-rw's. Anyways, my dad's cd player is an over 2 year old Technics SL-PD887 and all of my cd-r's play fine in it. The newer versions of it shouldn't be any different, besides i've read reviews from people who have had no trouble with cd-r's.I never have problems with cd-r's even in my Sony discman.

Audio-Technica Pro 8HEx Headset Microphone Review

Audio-Technica Pro 8HEx Headset Microphone

I've worn this headset for 6 years to teach aerobics classes. It gets sweaty, bounced around and spit on but keeps on working. I teach in many different facilities and the sound quality is completely dependent upon the sound system - the microphone itself delivers high quality sound if used with a quality sound system.
One recommendation if you use it for teaching aerobics - spray Scotchguard on the windscreen (foam ball over the microphone). My first headset went eventually developed some problems due to corrosion from the sweat and spit. I Scotchguarded the windscreen on the next one I bought and have had no problems with it.

Panasonic SA-HE100K Home Theater Receiver Review

Panasonic SA-HE100K Home Theater Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This was my first purchase when putting together my home theater system, based on Consumer Reports' recommendation. I still can't believe what a value I got for the money spent.
Does the job of decoding every type of DTS signal (even DTS-ES Discrete) and Dolby signals up to Dolby Digital 5.1 (however no Dolby Digital EX). One of the few receivers in any price range that is rated to power 4 Ohm speakers (albeit front only), and puts out more power than many [other]models. And of course the sound is great.
This is the core of my system consisting of a 30" HDTV and 6.1 speaker setup. I will say that I am now limited on my digital inputs, having my PS2, DVD player, and laptop all giving it digital (via Toslink optical) audio; if I ever get digital cable the PS2 will have to go to RCA stereo output.
Gives all the options you need for speaker setup, including filter for small speakers (100-200 Hz), individual speaker distance, and attenuation (+/- 10db).
Frills missed: radio station labeling, sleep timer, 7.1 channel out, not as many "environment" sound fields (only 6) as some, and no on-screen display. I consider these inconsequential though... the only thing I can really pick on is the "universal" remote is garbage for controlling anything else. Fortunately my TV has a good universal for controlling the receiver, otherwise I'd have to buy one.
There is a help function if there is a problem, I have never had to use it and can't speak to its effectiveness. It does require some time to setup, but no more than any other receiver should. The inputs and outputs are all clearly labeled on the back, and there is a composite video and RCA stereo connection in front for ease of use with a camcorder or video game system.

The SA-HE100 has been designed for ultimate audio performance, delivering cutting-edge surround sound from CDs, DVDs, and high-resolution formats like SACD and DVD-Audio with high power and great features. The receiver is equipped with six discrete RCA analog inputs to deliver the enhanced sound quality of multi-channel SACD (Super Audio CD) and DVD-Audio music.
It also decodes DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1-channel sources and Dolby Pro Logic II, which converts sound from regular two-channel stereo sources into 5.1 channel for spacious surround effect. And, you'll also enjoy DTS-ES and Dolby Digital EX extended surround formats, which add a rear center channel for a full 6.1-channels of surround--great for large rooms and home theaters with above-average resolution.
The SA-HE100 incorporates Panasonic's "Times Six" power amplifiers, which use Class H+ circuitry for a smooth, consistent sound from all six main channels. It delivers a full 100 watts per channel output (at 1 kHz into 6 ohms with 0.9 percent THD) so you'll feel the powerful bass of favorite music or the stomp of the Tyrannosaurus Rex breathing down your neck. You'll get slightly higher power--or lower distortion across the audio spectrum, depending on how you look at it--with stereo playback: 100 wpc from 40 to 20,000 Hz into 6 ohms with 0.9 percent THD).
The receiver uses Metal-Oxide Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor (MOS-FET) circuitry to enhance performance. By improving power bandwidth and contributing to highly linear sound quality, MOS-FET allows the receiver to reproduce a broader spectrum of frequencies than do standard amplifiers. Among other advantages, MOS-FET is what makes this model completely SACD and DVD-Audio compatible, with the ability to reproduce the rich, lifelike sound the formats are quickly becoming known for.
The SA-HE100 includes three optical and one coaxial digital-audio inputs, three S-video inputs, and one S-video output, as well as two high-resolution component-video inputs.

Numark TTX Professional Turntable Review

Numark TTX Professional Turntable
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These are great decks, and certainly hold their own against the industry standards. I've also got a pair of Technics (SL-1200M3D) that I've had for years. No complaints with those, of course, but I picked up the TTX1s so I could have a pair set up battle-style and more suited for scratching (straight tonearm, etc.).
Right out of the box, I could see that these were well-made turntables. The construction is quite solid. I believe they even weigh in slightly heavier than the 1200s.
For the price of these, the range of features is amazing. Here are some of them:
Selectable pitch control range (+/- 8%, 10%, 20% and 50%) - I tend to stick with +/- 8 because that's what I'm used to with the Technics, but for the occasional crazy mix, it's nice to have the option of greater range. The turntable also has a key lock feature, which allows you to adjust the tempo while the pitch stays the same. This is a very cool feature that CD DJs enjoy, so having it available for vinyl is fantastic.
Interchangeable tonearm - The tables come with both a straight and an S-shaped tonearm. They are very easy to switch out, but to be honest, I don't find myself changing them a lot. I just stick with the straight configuration, but for someone who might be using these for both turntablism and conventional DJing, the ability to switch would be great.
Designed for battle-style use - For those who like to work battle-style (the turntable positioned so the tonearm is in back rather than on the right side), the TTX1 is designed to easily accommodate that preference. As you can see from the photo, there are two start/stop buttons, so regardless of which way you have it turned, there will always be a button right where you're used to having it. Also, the pitch slider module and the RPM selection buttons module are interchangeable, so you can position the pitch slider to move up and down while in battle configuration (rather than having to adjust the pitch left to right). When you switch these controls, the LCD display automatically rotates so all of the info is still easily readable; a very nice touch.
Adjustable torque - Two thumbwheels on the turntable allow you to adjust the torque of the platter as well as the braking force. Compare this to the Technics, where you had to take the turntable apart and adjust some potentiometers with a small screwdriver. While on the subject of torque, I should mention that the TTX1 is insane in that department. The motor is quite noticeably more powerful than that of the Technics, and the start/stop times are phenomenal.
Output options - The TTX1 allows for three output configurations. You can output a phono-level signal (like most other turntables). This tends to be the cleanest signal because it's more or less a straight connection to the cartridge without going through the signal processor. The turntable also has line-level outputs (more like a CD player). These go through the internal signal processor to enable effects like the pitch lock feature. I have mine set up like this, and cannot discern any degradation in sound quality from the phono configuration. The third option is a digital (S/PDIF) output for use with a digital mixer or a direct connection to your computer.
I am hard-pressed to find anything bad to say about this product. There are a few minor things, but they're not big concerns. Here are the cons:
The left side of the turntable has a curve to it, which would make the turntable difficult to fit into a standard coffin case, if that was your preference.
The 45 adapter that comes with these is a light plastic thing, so I tend to use the solid metal ones that came with my 1200s. There's no place on the turntable to store the adapter, which isn't too big of a deal, since most people won't be spinning a lot of 7" 45s these days anyhow.
The turntable doesn't include a shell (dust cover). The TTX1 isn't really designed to sit on top of your home stereo anyway, so that omission isn't a big concern.
Overall, this is a fantastic turntable, and well deserving of the five stars I'm giving it. It's worthy to stand up there with the great decks from Technics and Vestax. I'm quite confident that these will give me many years of reliable use, just as I've come to expect from my 1200s.
One final note: As of this writing, the product photo here on Amazon depicts the TT1600, and not the TTX1. To see what the LCD and other cool features look like, check out the Numark web site for the correct photo (they call it the TTX, and not the TTX1).

The result of extensive research into the needs of professional DJs, the TTX1 deftly combines unmatched torque, incredible precision, and the world's first interchangeable tonearm design for optimal performance under all conditions. The turntable is sleek and attractive, with an ergonomic housing that weighs a hefty 28.6 pounds and accommodates the requirements of both beat mixing and scratching setups. It's specifically built with a solid core to fight vibration and unwanted noise while employing an anti-drag aluminum platter to reduce friction. The platter also boasts a quick-start setting with 6.2 lbs./inch of torque, though the start can be adjusted, as can the brake system.
It's the tonearm assembly that really shines, however. The tonearm is made from die-cast aluminum and is compatible with both S-shaped and straight tubes. DJs can use an S-shaped tube in conventional mode to mix and blend tracks, or they can turn the deck 90 degrees and attach the straight arm for scratching and battling. The latter setting is made more user-friendly by the beveled left-hand edge and the pair of stop/start buttons. Users can also swap the pitch fader with the control buttons for further accessibility.
DJs will delight in the backlit LCD display, which not only informs them of the motor's direction, but also includes tidbits such as the platter speed, pitch adjustment, key lock status (which changes song tempo without affecting the key), and beats per minute. Speaking of turntable speeds and pitch control, the TTX1 supports 33-1/3, 45, and 78 rpm vinyl and toggles between a pitch range of +/- 8, 10, 20, and 50 percent, allowing the DJ to mix endlessly with few restrictions. Additional features include switchable phono and line outputs, an S/PDIF output for digital devices, and an illuminated output bay. The assembly measures 18.1 by 5.3 by 14.6 inches (W x H x D) and carries a two-year warranty.
What's in the Box TTX1 turntable, right-angle IEC power cord, right-angle RCA cord, S-shaped tonearm tube, straight tonearm tube, phono cartridge, warranty card, user's manual.

Technics SL-PD8 5-CD Changer Review

Technics SL-PD8 5-CD Changer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For the price, I have seen few components that offer the variety of features and the quality of sound that the SL-PD8 can. The unit is slightly bulky but very sturdy. The single significant drawback is somewhat inconvenient placement of some controls, particularly the Skip button, which is difficult to reach with the drawer open. Other than that, the unit is very easy to use considering its impressive selection of features.
Perhaps the most unusual feature is the Spiral Play capability, which plays the first track of each disc, then the second, the third, and so on, delivering the variety of the more common random play mode and the reliability of straight through play in a single function. I find this to be the most frequently used function in my household.
The sound quality is quite good. Although the upper frequencies are slightly tinny and occasionally a bit indistinct, they are more than adequate for even classical music. The midranges make for dynamic vocals and the low end is most impressive.
Certainly, there are better technical units out there, but none are anywhere near this price range and, consequently, do not offer the value of this Technics deck. For the home audiophile who wants solid performance without busting the budget, this is a very good choice.

Pioneer DJM-400 Pro Dj Mixer Review

Pioneer DJM-400 Pro Dj Mixer

For any dj that is trying to figure out what to get, look no further.
The DJM-400 is hands down one of the best mixers an amateur can get a hold of. It has most of the features of the higher end DJMs, but with a lot less confusion.
It's very simple to start with the 400. 2 channels, cross fader, eq...
It even comes with several effects, all of which are processed at a high quality and sound amazing, even when you crank the effect level up all the way.
It's built like a tank, but it sure is a lovely sight to look at.
For the dj on the rise, i recomend you get one of these, and a pair of CDJ-400 and you will be all set to rock out a killer set.

The entry-level Pioneer DJM-400 mixer with an all-digital mixing bus (24bit/96kHz) features seven onboard effects, including the all new In-Loop Sampler. It matches Pioneer's CDJ-200 CD turntable in both function and design, allowing DJs to expand the range of DJing and remixing. And its symmetrical design is the same size as a CDJ-200, enabling an easy fit in a compact DJ coffin.

An intelligent 24bit/96kHz sampler automatically detects the tempo of a song during playback, sampling it for a length of 4 beats then loops the sample. Since the sampled sound is in sync with the beat of the tune being played, no matter the tempo, it enables live remixing like never before. Samples are automatically stretched and compressed to match the beat. The DJM-400 stores five samples onboard for a total of 12 seconds of sample time.

Onboard effects automatically detect the beats per minute of the music and sync to the beats. The DJM-400 includes seven onboard effects: Delay, Echo, Filter, Flanger, Phaser, Robot and Roll. All effects are processed at 24bits for the highest quality sound. A new Beat Select button allows more intuitive and aggressive DJ playing and remixing. Each channel has 3-band isolator EQ with full cut capability. The EQ ranges from +9dB to -∞ (infinity) for total control of the sound.

Sony Professional Dual Tape Cassette Player / Recorder - Black

It appears this model is a Sony TCWE475 where Deck A is Play only and Deck B is Play/Record as seen in the main product image. The second product image appears to have buttons showing that Deck A is also capable of Recording (very much like the years-old Sony TCWE835S that I meant to replace with this product). Kind of misleading especially when no model # is given.
I bought this product expecting the unit in picture two, somehow thinking "Professional" is a grade above the TCWE475, especially given that it's supposed to be marked down from $199.99.
Otherwise the product seems to be fine if it wasn't for this misleading product listing. And frankly, how often do I really need to record on Deck A also. Still, could the seller explain if I should have received the Dual Recording deck?

Picked these phones up at a discount store for around $13 and can't believe the sound. Like most headphones, it takes some time to get used to the environment each time you put them on. I had very similar Sony phones (MDR-V150) and sold them because they were uncomfortable and the sound was muffled and unimpressive. The Pannys are very comfortable with extremely soft pads. Sound is dynamic with tight bass and crisp highs. Vocals sound accurate. I've compared these to my Pioneer phones (EQ SE-MJ21) which have an MSRP of $60. The Pannys are way more comfortable. The Pioneers sound ever so slightly better. For the difference in price, the Pannys are a no-brainer.

Audio-Technica ATH-EW9 Lightweight Wood Clip-on Headphones Review

Audio-Technica ATH-EW9 Lightweight Wood Clip-on Headphones
Average Reviews:

Me: {if you care...} BA in Music, 20+ years music/sound production consultant...
You: on occassion like the likes of Diana Krall, Tommy Emmanuel and Anthony Wall ...
then you'll love these cherry wood-covered sonic marvels. They are wonderful to listen to, and eye-catching pretty as well. I don't mind letting others used these - as clip-ons, they are not exposed to personal hygiene like earbuds are. It's important to note these are set up to run the wire around the back of your head and not down the front of your neck. I've found this impacts by a fair amount how well they stay on my head.
Pros: they really sound great, very balanced, easy on the ears (you could seriously wear them for hours and forget you have them on), big sound but easy to carry with included pouch, no "in ear" fitting/discomfort issues
Cons: Only one so far, and it's not much of one - because they are clip-ons and light, I forget I have them on and move quick enough to dislodge them a bit on occassion, like when I play the Air Drums. It's not a show stopper, you get used to it quick enough. I don't jog but I am not sure you could wear them jogging, but for fast walking or a plane ride, they are great.
I've let others listen to them and they love them too. The price point is a tough one - do you really want to drop $100+ for phones you haven't heard? When I pay this much, I want a really good sound. These deliver and then some. I have pro quality recording phones and these keep up with them very well. I also have/had Bose earbuds - I returned them, these are much, much better sounding and fitting. Like I said, they are balanced sounding - they are not thumpers, they don't make your earlobes rumble. They play the lows just fine, but if you're used to a car stereo that rattles the windows with a 5000 watt subwoofer, you might find these a little light in the bass.
If you are after clarity, like to listen to what the musician recorded, like to listen to classical, pop, rock and jazz, I think you'll be in heaven hour after hour if you select these.

AT-LP240-USB Record Turntable Review

AT-LP240-USB Record Turntable
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have few egg-crateful of LP's and 3 feet worth of 45's that I have sporadically listened to on an Old Marantz direct drive turntable. It has an Ortofon OM10 cartridge. I have been happy with the setup for some time but decided it was time to upgrade. I bought an Audio Technica 440mla from Amazon.com and it did change the sound definition and clarity. But I wanted more.
I always coveted a Technics 1200 but didn't want to spend $1000 for a turntable. That's when I saw Audio-Technica AT-LP240-USB and liked the look of it. It had a perfect mix of "old" style and modern look. The frustrating part was that I couldn't find too many detailed reviews online. I have been shopping online for over 10 years but never wrote a review. I was compelled to write one for this turntable.
Delivery : 36 pounds. `Nuff said
Packaging: It is one of the best packed item that I have ever bought. Audio Technica made sure nothing rattles during shipping. Everything is packed in its own "compartment" and is secure.
Setting up: Took me about 45 minutes to set it up and mount the 440mla cartridge. I used Shure SFG-2 Stylus Tracking Force Gauge to confirm the setting at tracking force of 1.4.
Appearance: I loved the looks and the feel of each part even before I put them together. The final product with the speed strobe light and s-shaped tonearm was just beautiful. Overall, it has very stable and solid look to it. The piano finish looks incredible.
Sound: Believe... My AT 440mla sounded good but was very harsh on my Marantz turntable. The highs sounded distorted like they were and pancaked together. I even thought some my records were WORN OUT. After I changed to Audio-Technica AT-LP240, I am a believer. The highs came through as crisp and defined. The bass was solid and not muddled. I didn't think a turntable could make such a difference in sound but it DID.
Cons: There is no dedicated place to put the 45 adapter.
I think Audio Technica should have left out the pre-amp and USB function on this model. It cheapens the experience. When I was comparing turntables online, the fact that it had those functions made it sound like a low end model. Listening to vinyl is an experience in itself. Hooking it up via USB doesn't do justice.
My setup:
Polk Audio speakers: Lsi15, LsiC, LsiF/X, DSW micro PRO 3000
Receiver: Denon 3310Ci
Power amp: Emotiva XPA-5
DVD/CD player: Oppo BDP-93
I tried Music Hall MMF-2.2 and Denon DP-300F but returned both. I feel AT-LP240 sounds and look much better.

Technics SA-EX110 Stereo Receiver with 200-Watt Amp Review

Technics SA-EX110 Stereo Receiver with 200-Watt Amp

Absolutely outstanding sound quality for a bottom linereciever! I purchased it for an extra stereo expecting mediocresound. It lacks many desirable features and the remote is sluggish. However I was so amazed at the sound quality, it rivals my main reciever. I highly reccommend this reciever to anyone not requiring a lot of fancy extras. By the way it performs with awesome ability with a Hi-Fi VCR.I still can't get over what a value it is for the price.
