First you have to find it. Incidentally, I am sure it is not extremely difficult to find, for I happen to have found it accidentally in a film book store in Hollywood. Needless to say this book provides any potential film maker with an exciting view of the craft, turning mechanics into art. It is written in a clear style and in an almost profound way it will change the way you understand cinema and editing. Reisz and Millar will teach you how to turn the art of film into film art.

First published in 1953, the original English version of the book was reprinted 13 times without a word being changed and in translation it has become the standard work on the subject in the Spanish Czech, Polish and Russian languages. In 1968 the original text was reprinted as it stood, as it was felt that any attempt to revise or reinterpret it could only blur its spirit. the second edition has now also reprinted 13 times. On publication the film director Anthony Asquith said `this book is an absolute must not only for film technicians but for every intelligent filmgoer' and more recently i has been said that `it is probably the most successful film textbook in English, and has had a great influence on the technique of the cinema.'Byreisuing this book, unchanged apart from the new cover and slightly larger format, we hope that a new generation of aspiring film editors will continue to derive much pleasure from this classic text and, moreover, it will treble their enjoyment of every visit to the cinema.' Film director, Anthony Asquith `All who are creatively and written and compiled by Karl Reisz, with the help of some of the finest brains in British film production must become a standard work.' Gundam Technical Manual #1: Gundam Wing Review

Gundam Technical Manual #1: Gundam Wing
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Although a good deal of the information presented in the Gundam Wing Technical Manual is published in some form or another, no other source has it all so nicey compiled as this book. However, don't go thinking you've seen all of this before. While some of the stats and armaments of the Gundams are well known, the manual presents some lesser-known details about the Gundam Wing timeline and the physics behind the machines.
The first section of the book presents stats on each mobile suit in full color while presenting some details about important events. The last section of the book is in black and white and presents a detailed timeline and information on the characters and other technology, such as the space colonies, that populate Gundam Wing. My one complaint would be the small size of the book. While the pocket-size is easy to carry, it would be nice to have larger versions of the contained illustrations. Fans of Gundam Wing, old or new, should own this great resource book!

The first twenty pages are interesting because the author take the time to describe the tools and material needed for jewelry making.
But after the author try to describe the most jewelry techniques in a minimum of page: only one or two pages for each technique.
It is very insufficient. The photos are also to small.

When I was a medical student, I was frustrated by the lack of a good source for learning the things that I somehow seemed to be expected to know on the first day of my surgery rotation, in particular how to tie good knots of an appropriate type, reliably, quickly, and almost automatically.
This wonderful little book fit the bill admirably. Several of my friends at other medical schools subsequent bought it and thanked me for the tip.

The Encyclopedia of Water Color Techniques Review

The Encyclopedia of Water Color Techniques

I was requested by my editors to write the introduction to the Brazilian edition of this book and immediately accepted, because, unlike o most books on art techniques, Hazel Harrison concentrates on demonstrating how to master all the resources and effects that watercolor offers, without implying that there is any preferable way in which to paint. The techniques are clearly explained and well illustrated and, in the second part of the book, she includes many examples of how different artists used the effects described in the first part to interpret various subjects. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who wishes to master the art of watercolor.

Bruce Lee's Fighting Method, Vol. 1 Review

Bruce Lee's Fighting Method, Vol. 1
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Excellent book by Bruce Lee that shows how to defend yourself in various "street" scenarios. The examples shown are basic and straightforward, allowing the reader and practitioner the ability to easily grasp the defensive actions shown. Although some of the examples are unusual (ie - defense against a staff), they are still effective and easy to master. Very good book for anyone at any age, men and women! Other books I'd recommend based on his fighting style would be the rest of this series, as well as "The Bruce Lee Library" series by John Little. The "Tao Of Jeet Kune Do" is also an excellent book that includes his own personal notes and thoughts about his fighting art.

Long before mixed martial arts became a worldwide phenomenon and Ultimate Fighting became a household name, Bruce Lee created jeet kune do, a realistic combat hybrid that incorporated the most useful elements of kung fu, boxing, and fencing. Here the legendary fighter demonstrates the most effective methods for retaliating against surprise attacks, grabs, chokes, multiple attackers, and armed assailants. Because Lee believed that the best defence is the most simple and effective, his no-nonsense counters include eye gouges, groin kicks, head stomps, and other techniques that aren't taught in most studios. This first volume in "Bruce Lee's Fighting Method" contains detailed illustrations and vintage photos capturing Lee in his prime. The essential series, compiled and organized by his close friend, Mito Uyehara, is the perfect companion to Bruce Lee's classic text, "Tao of Jeet Kune Do". "The Bruce Lee's Fighting Method" series is an integral part of the Bruce Lee canon and a necessary addition for collectors and martial arts enthusiasts alike.

Deleuze and Philosophy: The Difference Engineer (Warwick Studies in European Philosophy) Review

Deleuze and Philosophy: The Difference Engineer (Warwick Studies in European Philosophy)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Keith Ansell Pearson's book 'Deleuze and Philosophy' is charged with differential thought and philosophically divergent sensitivities to an array of concepts that operate transversally and molecularly. This book is not to be read as an introduction to Deleuze's thought with the attendant distance so habituated. Rather it is to be read as a slash thru the very heart of his thought, making it bleed once again, contaminating nearly any concept within its reach. This is the only kind of introduction one can possibly expect to have spawned from work that is so `irresolute'. This volume contains resolutions so high that it can physically hurt to read them. Don't back down. The book delivers in a big way.

The work of Gilles Deleuze has had an impact far beyond philosophy. He is among Foucault and Derrida as one of the most cited of all contemporary French thinkers.Never a student 'of' philosophy, Deleuze was always philosophical and many influential poststructuralist and postmodernist texts can be traced to his celebrated resurrection of Nietzsche against Hegel in his Nietzsche and Philosophy, from which this collection draws its title. This searching new collection considers Deleuze's relation to the philosophical tradition and beyond to the future of philosophy, science and technology. In addition to considering Deleuze's imaginative readings of classic figures such as Spinoza and Kant, the essays also point to the meaning of Deleuze on 'monstrous' and machinic thinking, on philosophy and engineering, on philosophy and biology, on modern painting and literature. Deleuze and Philosophy continues the spirit of experimentation and invention that features in Deleuze's work and will appeal to those studying across philosophy, social theory, literature and cultural studies who themselves are seeking new paradigms of thought.
