The book
Book well printed on decent weight paper. Spine bound in a way that the book can lay FLAT on the table - an absolute must when actually USING it. Gets a star for this alone.
The Introduction
Speaks to design process and just as importantly, how to get bricks. The section dedicated to Bricklink, how to order & Bricklink brick ID numbers is a must. Very helpful.
Bricklink
As an aside, nothing to do with the book, Bricklink is a nightmare. Twice now lost 300+ part orders in my shopping cart, horrible slow interface, etc. Be prepared, its the most trying part of this process.
The Building
Diagrams laid out in a manner that any LEGO practitioner will recognize from the standard LEGO manuals. My only concern with the book comes here, where sometimes dark printing makes distinguishing parts a bit difficult.
The Models
5 to choose from, difficult decision. 2 are technic spring operated, 2 are rubber band operated (no joke style) & 1 is battery operated. Nice range of difficulty, part list size, etc.
The Author
Replied immediately with a minor question I had - obviously interested in the book & the community.
Overall
Fantastic. Fun book, well thought out and quite functional.
Now go put some eyes out.

School of Bowing Technics, Op. 2 - Book 2: Violin Method Review

School of Bowing Technics, Op. 2 - Book 2: Violin Method
Average Reviews:

Similar to book 1, except that the pieces are a bit more melodic, which is nice, because the goal is to play them about 500 times with minor variations. This will make you a better player, and you will return to this book a lot. Bow exercises can be boring, mind games (pattern retention), and generally painful, but these really do help you get better control of your bow. Guaranteed. Intermediate player or above.

Mel Bay Guitar Technic Review

Mel Bay Guitar Technic

I'm very surprised with this book. All the excercises aren't too demanding but, at some point, the author says that "all previous excercises shouldn't take more than 20 minutes of your time" and I thought "What?! no way!!, all previous drills took me twice that time!!.
It turns out that this is not a matter of "do this excersises" it is more like "if you can do all the excercises in 30 minutes or less...then you are a real player" and that's a real challenge. I've yet to finish the entire book in 30 minutes but i've seen the results, it does work, it made me faster, clearer and gave me a more powerful picking hand. It's really a great book.
But we have to put things in his real context. The book is old, very old, and doesn't show technics that are considered very important today suchs as sweep picking, bending or tapping and miss much of the most important scale shapes that are so common today. It also miss streching excercises (I did lost strech in my left hand while doing these excecises). Nonetheless, it will give a solid technic, the author is right, within six monts of practicing this book, you will start to sound like a pro.

What would I do if I have to choose between this book and - let's say - Troy Stetina's "Speed Mechanics..."?, well, I would buy this one and then, after I finished, I wolud pick up "Speed Mechanics...", mainly because after filiberto's book, Stetina's won't seen so frightening and I would really benefit from Stetina's.

Although this book begins with short exercises using extremely simple, two-finger left-hand movements, it quickly takes these building blocks and stacks them into a skyscraper of precise right- and left-hand technique. Develops left-hand dexterity, solid rhythmic sense, and plectrum technique, including crosspicking, through challenging scale and arpeggio exercises. Standard notation and tablature.

Navaho Weaving: Its Technic And History Review

Navaho Weaving: Its Technic And History
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Originally published in 1934, Amsden is considered the basic foundational text by authors writing on the history of Navajo blankets and rugs. While much new and helpful information has been written on Navajo weaving since then, most of these books used Amsden as original source material for much of their information. Pre-1940 Navajo blankets and rugs are among the most collectible artifacts in both the investment and art worlds today. Most all serious Indian art collectors, Native American Indian museum curators and related authors and academics will have a copy of this seminal work in their libraries.
Other recommendations: (1)Photos of antique blankets : "Navajo Textiles" The William Randolph Hearst Collection" by Nancy Blomberg; and (2)"Navajo Weaving Tradition" by Kaufman and Selser is one of the few "in print" books with and overview of the history of Navajo weaving. There is always a need for many more books in this area as so many titles are short run or specialty press issues. (Periodicals: (3) American Indian Art magazine with offices in Scottsdale, AZ publishes a quarterly and often features articles on early weavings.)
(Regarding other critiques of this book ; this is much more a book for collectors and investors and those interested in identifying and understanding the history and development of Navajo weavings and is not a "how to" book for those wishing to "learn to weave". Hobbyist shops have plenty of the latter available.)

David Carr Glover / Technic, Level 3" Review

David Carr Glover / Technic, Level 3

When I ordered this book, the name said "Lessons, Level 3" and the picture actually showed the 'lesson' book, not the 'technic' book. While the Technic book is OK, it's not a substitute for the Lesson book 3. It appears that this picture has been updated, but it is still being called "Lesson, Book 3" in the description. I hope no one else is confused by this as I was.
