But after the author try to describe the most jewelry techniques in a minimum of page: only one or two pages for each technique.
It is very insufficient.The photos are also to small.

(More customer reviews)This books covers just about every aspect of working with wire, including some basic silversmithing in the final section. The illustrations and instructions are clear, the pictures are excellent and some projects are included. Experienced silversmiths will probably find this book too simple, but it is an excellent source for beaders who sometimes work with wire and have only average wire work skills. A gallery of designs is included. Many readers will be able to get some inspiration from the designs and techniques, as they are not the 'same old' that is repeated in many beading magazines. This book will have a definite place in my library along with my (many) other beading books and I am sure to refer back to it for some of the techniques described.

In fact her lecturer reccomended it to all the students on the Jewllery Making & Design course. It is an invaluable guide to the beginner with its easy to follow instructions and information. It is well laid out with precise information and an easy reference source to fall back on. You won't be disappointed.

(More customer reviews)This book includes some good how to projects, general information, specific working problems w/silver clay & some gorgeous as well as creative examples of what can be done with precious metal clay. The projects & techniques are easy enough for beginners, but give "artists" who want to try this stuff technical meat to apply to more advanced projects. Many of the pieces that she includes in the book as examples of what can be done are very inspirational & get one's creative juices flowing. I highly recommend this book. I keep coming back to it for inspiration, information & frankly can't wait to get back into the studio after flipping through it.

There is no one better qualified or more appropriate to bring us this outstanding review of "The First Ten Years of Precious Metal Clay" than world-renowned metalsmith, teacher, author, jeweler and acknowledged PMC guru Tim McCreight. His prefatory remarks provide a personal look back at PMC's birth in Japan and its subsequent introduction into the United States - a process in which he played a leading role. The essay by world-class metalsmith and jewelry artist Donald Friedlich on the "Progress and Potential" of PMC is an insightful and thought-provoking exploration, not just of this medium but of art and artists' use of their media in general. And physicist Darnall Burks' explanation of "The Science of PMC," accompanied by Tina Carvalho's amazing electron microscope images of sintered PMC, breaks down the physics into simple language that all of us can understand.
But the main focus of the book is the chapter titled simply, "The Decade," which presents more than 200 pages of some of the most remarkable and ground-breaking PMC work from the past ten years. McCreight has selected a wide variety of impressive artists and striking art to represent the period, and while not all of them will appeal to every reader, it is obvious why each artist and piece was chosen for inclusion. (More customer reviews)I own over a dozen books on polymer clay techniques but I still find wonderful pieces of work for which I don't understand the techniques used. Donna Kato's latest book fills many gaps in my knowledge. She explains many new techniques as well as the basics. The book is well written and the projects are of a very high quality level.
This is already my favorite book on the subject of Polymer Clay and if I could only choose one book about the subject it would be this.
The photography and pictures, of which there are many, are also exceptional and the printing is much better quality than Donna's previous books.

(More customer reviews)Another wonderful book from Tim McCreight, who has edited this collection of techniques for PMC by assembling a veritable stable of stars. These brilliant artisans share their specific forte and we are definitely the richer and wiser as we work through their lovely projects.
The 10 artists cover : Syringe by Tonya Davidson, Hinges with Celie Fago, Bezels by Jennifer Kahn, Fusing Sterling and PMC by Doris King, Terry Kovalcik looks at Developing Form with Slip and the amazing Noortje Meijerink takes us on a PMC and Ceramic journey. Kelly Russell looks at using Stencils while Barabara Becker Simon merges Lampworking and PMC with a flair all of her own, add CeCe Wires Water Etching and J.Fred Woell's gorgeous Coreless Beads and I doubt that this book would not have something for everyone.
This book is not for a beginner, but you will certainly aspire to recreate the projects, beautiful each and every one of them. Lovely hand drawn pencil illustrations of both the steps and techniques compliment a rich gallery of colour photographs. The techniques are covered in detail - up to 20 pages, so you are left in no doubt how to create.
This book clearly states PMC and in fact exclusively uses this product throughout, however, the ideas are transferrable accross the Metal Clay's. Thank you for another wonderful book which I am sure will be read and re-read many times.

There is a lot of good detailed information; enough to get you interested and started with some ideas. The chapters range from patina recipes and application methods to anticlastic raising to making your own tools (and several things in between!). As a beginner in the metalworking field, I found the subject matter fairly accessible, and definitely tantalizing. I want to get in there and start hammering away! A very helpful and inspiring book.
