(More customer reviews)Operation of this turntable is smooth with regards to accurate pitch and speed adjustment and the auto-return tone arm mechanism is flawless.
However, the downfall of this Technics turntable is an annoying audible static -like intermittent noise heard on quiet passages of music. I made absolute sure the ground wire was well secured and I even tested this 'table on another stereo system and still the annoying noise was present. Apparently, it may be something inherent in between the belt-motor and the output wiring. I tested another Technics table of the same model number and, yup, you guessed it...that same noise is there. It could have something to do with a design flaw or something that is just inherent with a non-direct drive frequency generated turntable...On a consumer electronics web-site another owner/reviewer of the SL-BD22 had the same exact problem ! So, it could be very much a problematic theme with regards to the designing of the table motor mechanism.
After this experience, I upgraded to the Technics SL-1200M3D. WOW ! A major world of difference. It didn't come cheap but the quality and durability is something to behold and so what if it's not an automatic (one less thing to break down) !
The SL-BD22 is basically a no frills 'table and will play records nicely. BUT, if yours comes with a static or humming sound no matter how much adjusting you do, it's a possibility it could be that design flaw...

Technics: Headshell for Technics 1200 - SILVER Review

(More customer reviews)The name Technics is a God of the DJ industry! Anything with the name technics or even Panasonic is well worth buying. These headshells work best in with the Shure M44-7's. If you can find these headshells, buy them! The DJ industry needs technics to keep producing turntables and DJ equipment. Closing down technics was a huge downfall in the DJ industry.

(More customer reviews)Although there are four separate components and plenty of dials, toggles, and buttons, this is not the set for tinkerers who demand control of the sound. There's a button that gives you enhanced bass and a dial that supplies fine tuning of the tweeter, and that's it! Not even the ability to balance the speakers. The flip side of course is simplicity, and simplicity is the name of the game from assembly to operation of these handsome components and speakers. Just link everything together, plug it in, and enjoy impressive sound. Impressive, that is, for everyone but those who want to rattle the walls with amplified rock and loud orchestral compositions. They should look elsewhere. But for those who, like my wife and I, live in snug apartments and whose tastes run to small-group jazz and classical chamber music with emphasis on solo piano, violin, guitar, sax, and trumpet, Technics has put together a terrific audio system. Just squeeze it in wherever there's room and let it fill your space with warm, balanced sound.

(More customer reviews)Okay, before I start my review of this product, let's be clear on a few things: You're about to read a review written by someone that considers himself one VERY stubborn skeptic. I consider myself a hip hop purist. I've been a DJ since 1994 and I hold vinyl in the highest of regards. I don't think anything will EVER be able to fully replace it. When I first heard about CD turntables being released to the public, I thought it was nothing short of blasphemous. I literally refused to lay my hands on one simply because I thought they were for lazy DJs and people with so little skill that they needed computerized turntables to take all the guess work out for them. That was until one day when I stopped by one of my favorite spots to cop some vinyl and another turntable. One of the salesman who I'd come to know on a first name basis and trusted a great deal introduced me to the marvel that is the Technics SL-DZ1200. I was still skeptical while he was showing me its capabilities. I had no intention of buying it at all......until I laid hands on it. Seriously, there is NOTHING that you can do with vinyl that you can't do with the SL-DZ1200s. What the previous reviewer said is true, you have to have a hands on encounter before you can make a fair assessment of this piece. I stood there scratching and mixing CDs for about an hour. After all was said and done, I left the store as an owner of one....and I'm not even a Technique kind of guy, I prefer Stanton turntables. The platter itself feels like vinyl and you can literally scratch the CDs like they were vinyl. You'll love it, no question. The previous review is very accurate. If you have a huge vinyl collection like I do (over 3000), then I can understand your hesitation. But I also have a growing CD collection (over 1500) and I would love to incorporate some of that material into my rotation. The switch for me was totally logical and I think that many other DJs will end up doing the same if they give this baby a spin.
If I had to find a beef, naturally, it would be the hefty price tag. CD turntables, depending on what brand and what features they have, can run you $700 - $3000 easy. And you have to wonder if the ability to play MP3s and CDR/RWs could lead to bigger issues. You'd never have to buy anything other than blank CDs and internet access. While I think that doing so is better suited for the morally bankrupt, the realist in me acknowledges that bootlegging isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
This turntable still gets my highest reccomendation and I urge any DJ looking into this to go ahead and get one. Pitch control, record manipulation, scratching....it's all there. Once you start scratching, you'll totally forget that it's not vinyl that you're scratching with.

Audio Technica AT-LP60 Fully Automatic Belt Driven Turntable Review

(More customer reviews)You really can't get a better turntable for this price. It wasn't broken or cracked when it arrived, it was easy to assemble, and it sounds great. For under 100 bucks that is more than I expected. The other cool thing about this turntable that is not in the description is that it's easily upgradeable. The turntable comes with a ATN3600L stylus. You can replace that stylus with the ATN3600DLX stylus for even better sound quality and performance. You can also get a better belt for it too but I haven't looked into that yet. It's not going to get any better than this until you hit about the $300 range.

(More customer reviews)Having owned several plastic cheap turntables over the years ( all of them are in turntable heaven now)this was the last one I purchased.I have had it for almost 2 years and enjoy listening to it almost everyday like it was the first day I bought it ! In fact I sometimes prefer to listen to the old warm analog sound of my vinyl collection versus the new cold digital age of music.What will immediately set this 'table apart from other imitations or knock offs is the rugged and heavy duty plinth (what the actual wheel of steel sits on) and its impeccable or uncanny way of tracking even some older somewhat warped lps (if counter-weight and anti tracking are adjusted just so). This is not only the working dj's table but also for the guy or gal with the valuable record collection. Though it is totally manual, the sacrifice of having to get up (off my lazy ...)and stop it at the end of an lp side is well worth it in exchange for the high calibre of performance.Also, from my past experiences with full automatic turntables I would often pay a high price for owning them because the automatic mechanisms were always the first part to breakdown on any of my tables.This one is a no frills manual without the worry of an automatic mechanism failing (dropping the needle on the outside of the record or rejecting before the actual time of side a or b was up GRRRR !). Rotational speed accuracy is incredible (practically almost no wow and flutter).Start up from a dead stop is fast!You can even gently run your fingertips in the opposite direction the platter is playing and feel how tight and tough the motor fights you to maintain a constant correct speed.This is a great table for archiving your valuable lp's onto a cd recorder due to the smooth start and stop feature.It is also an attractive looking piece of audio equipment that would look like the crowning component jewel to any a/v system;it would make your friends do a double take(either because its an aesthetically nice looking piece or the puzzlement of why anybody still listens to records)It will definitely make young kids and some teens say, "what the heck is that ???). Fitted with an excellent cartridge it will give hours of enjoyment for a party as well as probably outlive the family cat !
